What happens after you answer
Ten short questions on this site, one phone conversation with a licensed agent in your state, and a plan you can read on paper. Here is each part, what it costs, and what happens if it is not the right fit.
Answer ten questions
About a minute. No account numbers, no paperwork, no exam, no logging in to your mortgage.
- Your state first, so you only hear from an agent licensed where you live
- Your date of birth, and roughly what is left on the mortgage
- The monthly payment range and the coverage amount you have in mind, or let the agent match it to the balance. Both can be skipped
- Who the coverage is for, then two taps on your health and tobacco use so the agent looks at the right kind of coverage. Nothing is decided on the page
- Your zip code, and how to reach you
A licensed agent reaches out
Usually a text first, at the number you gave us, to find a time that works. Then a call of about fifteen minutes.
- Licensed in your state and appointed with more than one carrier
- They see the coverage target you built and the answers behind it
- You can stop contact at any point by replying STOP
A plan, then your decision
The agent confirms your health details with you on the call, runs your details with the carriers open to you, and shows you the cost and the term in writing.
- Level or decreasing coverage, with the term matched to the years left on the loan
- Which plans ask health questions rather than a full medical workup, depending on the carrier and its underwriting
- Whether coverage you already have does the job
What the call covers
The question the agent is trying to answer: if your income stopped tomorrow, could the people in the house keep it, and for how long?
- The remaining balance, the years left, and the monthly payment
- Who would keep living in the house, and what they would need each month
- Income, and any coverage already in place, including through work
- Health basics and any medications. You tapped the short version on the page, the agent goes through the detail with you, and that decides which carriers and plans are open to you
- Whether a policy sized to the whole balance, or to a few years of payments, fits better
Worth having to hand
- A recent mortgage statement
- Any existing policy or work benefit statement
- Your questions. Write them down. There are no bad ones.
None of it is required. The agent can work from your answers alone.
What you walk away with
- A coverage target you understand and could explain to someone else
- A plan with the cost and the term, on paper
- An honest read on whatever coverage you already have
- A clear next step, or a clear "you are already covered"
If it is not a fit
Some homeowners already have enough coverage through work or an existing policy. Some are better served by a small policy than a large one. Some will not qualify with the carriers we work with, and the agent will say so. Nothing else happens: no second pitch, no campaign. You can also stop at any stage by replying STOP to a text or telling the agent directly.
Nothing, at any point
You never pay us. If you decide to apply and a carrier issues a policy, the carrier pays the agent or their agency a commission out of the policy's own pricing. It is not an extra line on your bill; the policy's cost is the carrier's rate either way.
That means this only works when a homeowner ends up with coverage they keep. Selling the wrong policy, or a bigger one than a family needs, costs the relationship. So the advice is built to hold up years later, not just on the call.
